Heading into summer, I spotted this reminder in the window of a wonderful local running store on my walk home from class. It’s the kind of place that you really love to shop because they do a great job at what they do, but also because it’s the kind of place that thinks to put this painting in the window.
Clearly this sign is talking about running, but to me, it was talking about something else.
Parenting is a funny thing because as strikingly competent as we might be at everything our lives contained before it, it humbles like nothing else. It’s a learning curve like no other. It can feel too slow and too fast at the same time.
So, this is your reminder to: Honor your pace. Life as a parent may feel slower, faster, longer, shorter, and just different.
Honor your (child’s) pace…as (s)he: walks along the sidewalk, delights in something delightful, asks to read the same book (again), sloshes pancake batter out of the bowl while stirring.
Honor your pace…as you continue to learn about your child, parenting, and yourself as a parent.
Parenting is an honor, and it’s an honor to be along on your parenting road, no matter our distance, no matter the pace.
